At the age of 15, Jordan entered foster care, finding support in the care of his maternal aunt, who provided him with the stability he needed. When he turned 18, Jordan wanted to join Guiding Harbor’s Supervised Independent Living (SIL) Program. This program is specifically designed to support young adults in developing essential independent living skills, while also assisting them in making educational, vocational, and career choices. This program also offers valuable employment opportunities and caters to individuals aged 16 and older who possess the physical and emotional capabilities to excel in the program.

Throughout his participation in the SIL Program, Jordan was fortunate to live with his aunt, ensuring continuity in his life. Recognizing the responsibility he held as an older sibling to his younger brothers and sisters, who were also in foster care, Jordan strived to set a positive example for them. Successfully graduating from high school, he wasted no time in seeking immediate employment. However, he was mindful of the fact that he would eventually need to consider college or trade school, so he diligently saved money to support himself in any path he would choose.

As Jordan navigated the complexities of adulthood, he experienced some job changes as he learned to find his footing. Nevertheless, with the unwavering support and guidance from his aunt and case manager at Guiding Harbor, he could access the necessary assistance. Jordan finally maintained stable employment for over a year which was a remarkable success for him. Eventually, in 2022, when Jordan turned 21, he completed the program and began exploring the opportunities offered by trade schools to pursue his dream of becoming an electrical engineer. Jordan finally felt prepared to take the crucial next steps toward realizing his future ambitions. Jordan is an example of the work that Guiding Harbor does to empower the clients we serve, equipping them with the essential skills needed to achieve their goals and navigate a successful path forward. His journey serves as a shining example of the success we strive for in our commitment to those we serve.
